Our town Bendery
The city of Bendery is located on the site of a winding riverbed of the Dniester river, which originates in the Carpathian mountains and flows into the Black sea.
From ancient times on the Dniester were trading caravans from Lviv and Galich to Kaffa and Carthage.
In the region it is difficult to find a city whose history, rooted in ancient times, would be so intricately intertwined with its present and future. Convenient geographical location, mild climate since ancient times attracted people here. Here, at the crossroads of trade routes, the interests of States and peoples have repeatedly crossed. Over the centuries, some tribes were replaced by others on the territory of the region, the speech was multilingual: Scythians, Geto-Ducs, Sarmatians, Goths, Huns, Pechenegs, Polovtsy, Slavs, volokhs, Tatars, Turks. About their stay reminds us of the ancient name of the city: Tungate, Tyagyanyakyacha, Tighina, Bender. In August 1538, the Turkish Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent led a large army attacked The Moldavian Principality. After fierce battles and as a result of treachery boyars Turks occupied all territory of the country. Stephen lacusta was appointed ruler, who agreed to the annexation of the Tigina by the Turks. The city and the surrounding 18 villages have been transformed into a Turkish city called Bender. This is announced by the Polish-Moldovan chronicle, stored in the national library of Warsaw. It says that " the Turkish king, having been a little in Suceava, went back to Turkey, ordered nothing to spoil in the land, but before he took possession of a castle Moldovan Tigina." On the site of the customs according to the plan of the famous Turkish architect koji Sinan was built Bender fortress.
